The European department and international relations advisor at Germany's home affairs ministry, Mr. Johans Orban, has revealed that Germany is considering cooperating with Algeria in order to put an end to religious extremism among the Muslim community in Germany, through the supervision of mosques by Algerian Imams.
On the fringes of a fact-finding visit to Germany meant to take stock of Muslim life there, in which El Khabar is taking part on the invitation of the Foreign Affairs ministry and the Goethe Centre, the German home affairs ministry spokesman made clear that “Germany is desirous to upgrade its relations with the Algerian religious affairs ministry to benefit from its experience in terms of mosque supervision, as is the case in France, in order to put an end to religious extremism recorded in 1,293 mosques in the German federation mirrored through violent acts Muslim youth there perpetrate."
The same source further mentioned that security information underscores that there are terrorist cells acting under the cover of Islam who provide al Qaeda with support. Yet, in spite of that fact, the speaker says “the German government distinguishes between Islam and violence as it is used by some parties who strive to achieve their interests allegedly on behalf of Islam.
According to the speaker, there is “a fear so that al Qaeda affiliated cells will act in Germany, which will represent a threat to the German project meant to fully integrate the Muslim community."
