December 16, 2009 -- Sufism researchers and experts from 14 African and European countries are in the southern Algeria oasis city of Djanet this week for the 6th International Sufism Congress, ANSAMed reported on Tuesday (December 15th). The event reportedly highlights the importance in Sufism of the Tidjaniya and Qadiriyya brotherhoods. "These two fraternities have enabled Islam to expand, especially throughout West Africa," said Slimane Hachi, the director of Algeria's National Centre for Historical and Anthropological Research (CNRPHA).
