These kinda programmes are important though, they are not just cultural, but educative and they increase ppl's awareness of whats going on.
I 100% agree. One can check then specialised channels (ARTE in fr and germany is a very good example)
Islam nowadays is a hot topic, and when something negative happens (e.g terrorism) the media wouldnt waste one second to trash the image of Islam (breaking news: islamic terrorists attack bla bla bla)
In a report I read a few months ago, it was said that the islam related books (and Quran) sales increased by more than 100% in western europe since 9/11. It is indeed a hot topic. But I regret that, again, commercial interests are driving it. Did u see how many Islam and islamist terrorism specialists we have in europe! all writing books, telling BS (and no doing any good to Islam image), and these r the books ppl buy and read. It is a high topic because it helps sell!
Anyways, I believe that except medias which have specefic ideologies, all the others r only looking after benefits and more money and they don't give damn of the subject: terrorism, the prosthesis of the ex 'imam' of finsburry, or the monicagate... who cares as long as ppl watch, read and buy.

If you want to learn about Islam from UK TV, wake up at 1am.
I am now able to not sleep before 1 am, but I am not in the uk

    Salam everyone

I must disagree with some of you. Knowledge does not come free to you you have to travel to gain in.
so if anyone wants to learn he must go to school and not the other way around the school does not have to suit your programmes either.

    Death in Gaza

A multi-award winning and extraordinary film that charts the lives of three Palestinian children caught up in the cycle of violence between the Israeli army and Palestinian fighters and also documents the killing of acclaimed director James Miller who was shot by the Israeli army while filming in the Gaza Strip. Miller and reporter Saira Shah had set out to follow up their award-winning films, Beneath the Veil and Unholy War with a documentary about children caught in the crossfire of the bitter Israel/Palestine dispute. The three children they meet face almost unimaginable horrors as part of their everyday lives and grow up in a world where martyrdom is something to aspire to. The film includes James' death - his final moments captured by a local cameraman, as he approached an Israeli army APC, identifying himself as a TV journalist and shining a torch on a white flag while asking for permission to pass. In April of this year, nearly two years after James's death, an unnamed Israeli officer was cleared of all charges by an Israeli military court. The family has criticised the fact that to this day no one has been called to account for his death. The film includes an update on James Miller's family's fight for justice. Since the film was first transmitted on Channel 4 it has won numerous awards including a Bafta and three Emmys.

    Fahrenheit 9/11

Michael Moore's double Cannes-winning documentary is a scathing indictment of Bush and his administration, from his controversial election in 2000 through the attack on the World Trade Center to the invasion of Iraq. Along the way, Moore shows how Bush had already been warned of Bin Laden's attacks in August 2001, how Saudi Arabia has invested $360bn in the American economy - seven per cent of total investment - and how he is dangerously close to those who stand to profit from the war in Iraq. He also addresses the human implications, as bereaved mother Lila Lispcomb travels from Flint, Michigan to confront the White House administration, and shows the true feelings of troops in Iraq. Although it is occasionally sprawling, Moore successfully convinces that the Bush administration is headed by an incompetent leader with a questionable taste in friends.

Time: 23:00 to 01:35 (2 hours and 35 minutes long).
When: Friday 14th October on more4

    *NOTE*

Every time you like a programme ~ email, call or write to the broadcasters and producers to encourage them to make more similar programmes in the future. Conversely if you don't like a programme then also email, call or write to them and elaborate on what was wrong. Every email, call or letter is logged and affects future programming. So let's not just be couch potatoes - let's monitor what is being broadcast and make a positive change.
