Algeria has called up three uncapped players for this week's African Nations Cup qualifier against Cape Verde Islands.

Coach Jean-Michel Cavalli named goalkeeper Samir Hadjaoui, striker Mohamed Seiffedine Amroune and French-born defender Halim Medaci for the Group Eight qualifier in Algiers on Saturday.

Watford striker Hameur Bouazza, who made his debut in a friendly last month, retains his place and is set for his first competitive international.

Algeria lead the group standings with four points, one more than Cape Verde.

Algeria beat Cape Verde 2-0 at home on Saturday in Group Eight of the 2008 Nations Cup qualifying campaign.

The victory kept the home side on top of the group with seven points while Guinea moved to second on four points following their 2-0 away win over Gambia in the group's other game earlier on Saturday.

The game in Algiers marked the competitive debut for France-born striker Hameur Bouazza but it was Mehdi Meniri, who was also born in the European country, who opened the scoring for the Desert Foxes on the hour mark.

Striker Nouredine Daham sealed the win with only a minute to go after taking advantage of a defensive mix-up.

Reuters has a slightly different version of the order of goals:

ALGIERS, March 25 (Reuters) - Algeria stayed top of African Nations Cup qualifying Group Eight after beating the Cape Verde Islands 2-0 on Saturday.

It took an hour for the home side, who won the African title in 1990, to break down the defence of the team from the tiny island archipelago.

Noureddine Daham opened the scoring in the 60th minute, with a header from Karim Ziani's pass, and defender Mehdi Meniri scored from a corner in the last minute. Algeria have seven points from their three group games.
