Although Turkey was unable to join the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, the government is making preparations for a “diplomatic football tournament.”

The International Friendship and Peace Football Tournament, to be organized by the Royal Company, will begin on June 22 with a match between a group of employees of the Turkish Foreign Ministry and another group of officials from the American embassy.

The second match will be played between members of the parliament from both the government and the opposition and officials from the Iranian embassy in Ankara. If the Americans defeat the Turkish foreign ministry officials, and the Iranians defeat the members of the parliament, the final match will be played between the Americans and the Iranians.

The team of officials from the British embassy will play against a team of Turkish businessmen on the second day. The first match of the Russian team will be played against a group of Arab diplomats.

The final match at the first stage will be played between the Sudanese officials and a combination of officials from the Iraqi and Algerian embassies.

The semifinals will take place on June 27, and will be followed by the finals on June 29.
