La Fitness Wants To Sue Me

Guys ...guys ...guys ....

Back in May .. walked to my local gym and told them that I wanted to cancel my membership as I was going away ..The girl at the counter ...gave me a piece of paper ..asked me to write my name and number ...as I was leaving ...she asked me for my card just in case ...I handed over my card and I asked her : So I can have peace of mind that my membership is cancelled and she said YES..
I went to my bank and cancelled my direct Debit to them as from the following month....just in case...
I went to algeria ...came back...only to find a pile of letter from LA fitness wanting to sue me for not paying up...
I called them up ...they refered me to their Credit control department ...and the girl said that : In my contract it says that I need to cancel IN WRITING ....Well I couldn't remmber and why didn't your member of staff tell me that? ...why did she reassure me that everything was ok ...
I got a call from the debt collectors telling me that they are coming to collect the money from my house ...!!!!!!
What 's all that about...????????
I wrote to them about a week ago explaining the whole situation but they ignored my letter....!!!
Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrr ..It's not fair!!!!!!!

Bad Luck Sminette, am a member of LA Fitness as well, I use the one in West India Quay (between me and you ) yes you do have to cancel in writing or fill in a cancellation sheet they have, that's what I did the last time I cancelled my membership to rejoin in a joint one...the lady at the counter (ignorant receptionist) has obviously no idea what she's doing and look what that resulted in!

This is awful! I never thought they'd take it this far....because I always known them to be very flexible, I mean I freeze my membership every year for Ramadan and take free gust passes for friends and family and I get away with murder....bad luck Sminette!

Hope you get this sorted very soon....You don't want to have that on your credit records...

Thats why you need reference numbers when you do stuff like that and receipts or written documents. I know exactly what you're dealing with, the fine print in North America is ridiculous. You have to make sure you read EVERYTHING. In any case, good luck with your problem.

From legal point of view, You can always use your phone to cancel anything agreement you did, as you did not show up you are not liable to any paymnent, go to any local legal office, show them that you have been out of the country (Passport stamps) and you will not pay a penny....

Try going to your local Citizens Advice Bereau - as well as any free legal advice centre - your local council/library should have a list.

They should have the incident on CCTV anyway - tell them to check it!

...I hope they won't involve any CCTV ...so that poor girl won't get sacked...I'd really feel bad if they ever sack her...even though she messed me up...
