ALGIERS, Sept 1 (KUNA) -- The 16th Arab School Games kicked off here on Friday with the participation of delegations representing 16 Arab countries, including Kuwait, under the slogan, "Solidarity with the Peoples of Lebanon and Palestine". In a letter sent to the participating guests, Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika said that the meeting was an opportunity for Algeria for young Arab athletes to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood through various sports activities and expressed pride in Algeria for embracing the Arab school athletes.

Bouteflika said the young athletes were the ambassadors of the Arab sports renaissance to bring the Arab nation to the levels of pioneering countries.

The two-week games will bring about 1000 athletes from the Arab countries to compete in seven sports including men's football, handball, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, swimming, and track and field, in addition to five female sports including basketball, volleyball, table tennis, swimming and track and field.
