Algeria and Libya will be among the eight teams to participate in the sixth African Cup of Nations for military football teams, which is scheduled for November 5th-17th in Yaounde, Cameroon. According to the Cameroon Tribune, the favourites to win the trophy include two-time winner Burkina Faso, Egypt and Mali. Other participating teams include Botswana, Congo-Brazzaville, Uganda, and Cameroon.

The 6th African Military Football Cup will take place from the 5th to the 17th of December 2006.
Cameroon will become the heart of African military sports from December 5th to 17th, 2006. The 6th African Military Football Cup, dubbed CAMFOOT, will be taking place in Yaounde during this period. Preparation for the continental event has reached fever height in the capital city with the participating countries expected in Yaounde as from today. Eight nations will take part in the competition - Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Mali, Congo-Brazzaville, Algeria, Uganda, Gabon and Guinea Conakry.
The eight teams will play in two pools with the first two teams of eachevery pool qualify for the semi finals. Following the programme, the opening ceremony of the eight-nation tournament will take place on Wednesday, December 6th. All matches will be played at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium.
While launching the event last month, the Secretary of State in charge of the Gendarmerie, Jean Baptist Bokam, said the competition will put Cameroon in the limelight on the international scene. He enjoined members of the organizing committee to do everything possible to protect the image of the country. He said fraternity and fairplay should be the watch words no matter the outcome of the Games for Cameroon.
According to the President of the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), Cameroonian born, Col. Kalkaba Malboum, the Games were initiated to develop friendship among military sportsmen and the armed forces of member states. Through the Games, he said, OSMA contributes to peace keeping, promotion of the spirit of solidarity and hospitality, and mutual understanding among Africans.
The military football competition, which takes place every two years, started in 1994 in Burkina Faso and then moved to Rwanda, Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire, Mali and today Cameroon.

The eight contenders are already in Yaounde ahead of the tournament that begins tomorrow.
The 6th African Military Football Cup, dubbed CAMFOOT "6", begins tomorrow in Yaounde. Placed under the theme, "Military Sports at the service of peace in Africa", the tournament will bring together military men from eight countries - Algeria, Burkina Faso, Congo Brazzaville, Mali, Guinea Conakry, Gabon, Uganda and host, Cameroon.
As of yesterday evening, all but one country were already in Yaounde. Uganda, Algeria and of course, Cameroon, were the first arrivals. The Algerian team even had the opportunity to train at the Yaounde Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium yesterday evening. The players were greeted by cheerful Cameroon youths as they alighted from their bus. "We are looking forward for a very interesting and competitive CAMFOOT tournament", Col. Frank Mulu Chief Executive Officer of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa said.
Today, focus will be on the general rehearsal of tomorrow's opening ceremony. Prior to the ceremony, there will be a technical meeting during which draws for the competition will be made. It's only then that teams will be fixed on their group and contenders in the first round.
The African Military Football Cup is a continental football tournament organised by the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa, OSMA, the regional branch of the International Council of Military Sports, CISM. Cameroon is hosting the tournament after Burkina Faso, Rwanda, Guinea Conakry, Cote d'Ivoire and Mali. Three countries have won the competition since its inception in 1994. Burkina Faso has won the cup twice (1994 and 1997), Egypt twice (1998 and 2004) and Guinea Conakry once (2001).

The 6th African Military Football Cup, "Camfoot 2006", is taking place in Yaounde, Cameroon, through December 17th. Eight nations are taking part in the competition - Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Mali, Congo-Brazzaville, Algeria, Uganda, Gabon and Guinea Conakry. The tournament, held every two years, acts as the qualifier for the World Military Games.
Algeria defeated RD Congo, 4-0, but lost to Mali, 1-2, in the first two matches. If Algeria beats Uganda on Wednesday, the team will qualify for the semi-finals.

Yaounde, Cameroon, 12/14 - Algeria has made it to the African Military Football Cup (CAMFOOT) semi-final, despite a 1-1 draw against Uganda Tuesday in Yaounde in the last Group B match.
In another encounter, Mali, which is already qualified for the semis, consolidated its place as Group leader after thumping Congo 4-1.
In the semi-final on Thursday, Mali will face Guinea-Conakry, second place in Group A, while the group`s leader Cameroon will take on Algeria, second place in Group B.
The top three sides in the final rankings will qualify for the World Military Football Cup slated for 2007 in India.

Yaounde, Cameroon, 12/16 - Cameroon and Mali have qualified for the African Military Football Cup (CAMFOOT) final slated for Sunday in the Cameroonian capital, Yaounde.
In the semi-final Thursday, Cameroon beat Algeria 3-1 in extra time, while Mali walloped Guinea 3-0.
Capitalising on more physical freshness and the support of a crowd essentially made up of soldiers, the Cameroonians managed to score two goals during extra time to clinch a ticket to the final.
On Saturday, Algeria and Guinea will play the third place match in Yaounde to determine which team joins the two finalists for the world military football Cup scheduled for next year in India.

Algeria lost to Guinea, 4-3, on Saturday (December 16th) in the match for the third place in African Military Football Cup in Cameroon. The loss prevented the North African team from qualifying for the Military World Cup in India. Cameroon snatched the title on Sunday, after a 1-0 victory over Mali.
