The International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro) will hold its world congress, which will focus on the situation of African football, on November 21st-22nd in Algiers, African Footballers Union President (UAF) Mourad Mazar said at a press conference on Sunday (November 5th). Algeria is the first African and Arab country to host the congress, Mazar said. After the congress, UAF will hold a general assembly to elect a new president.
On the sidelines of the events, awards will be given for "Best African Player of the Century" and "Best African Player on a World Level". Former stars Rabah Madjer (Algeria), Laurent Pokou (Cote d'Ivoire), Roger Milla (Cameroon), Abedi Pelé (Ghana), and Ahmed Faras (Morocco) are in the race for the first prize, while Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon) and Didier Drogba (Cote d'Ivoire) are the favourites for the second one. The winners will be selected on the basis of a survey carried out among 815 African footballers playing in Europe.
