Badminton in Algeria

The 9th African Badminton Championship kicked off in Algiers on Monday (December 4th). In the opening matches, Morocco will face Mauritius in Group B. In Group A, Algeria will play Cameroon, and Egypt will take on Ethiopia. The other participating countries include Seychelles, Gabon, South Africa, Sudan and Botswana. Nigeria will not be represented in the team competition, but will play in the individual matches, according to African Badminton Federation Secretary Raj Gaya.

Algeria was placed second in the final of the African Badminton Championship Wednesday (December 6th). South Africa snatched the title with three victories over the Algerians. In the semi-finals, Algeria defeated Seychelles, 3-2. Seychelles and Mauritius, who lost to South Africa in the semis, won bronze medals in the team event.

August 6, 2007 -- Algeria and Morocco are among the eight Arab countries participating in the third Arab Youth Badminton Championships for men and women, which kicked off on Sunday (August 5th) in the Syrian city of Tartous. The list of participating countries also includes Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Syria and Sudan.

Le président de la Comeba à Alger

Mercredi 29 octobre 2008 -- Les perspectives de développement de la pratique du badminton en Algérie et dans les pays méditerranéens ont été évoquées lors d'une rencontre à Alger entre des responsables de la Confédération méditerranéenne de badminton (Comeba) et leurs homologues algériens de l'ANB. En visite à Alger, la délégation de la Comeba, conduite par son président Alberto Miglieta, s'est entretenue avec les dirigeants de l'Association nationale de badminton, dont le président Messaoud Zobiri, en présence du président du Comité internationale des Jeux méditerranéens (CIJM), l'Algérien Ammar Addadi. L'ordre du jour a également permis d'évoquer les possibilités d'intégration du badminton aux Jeux méditerranéens, précise- t-on à l'ANB qui indique, en outre, que la délégation du Comeba a été reçue par le président du Comité olympique algérien, Mustapha Berraf. Selon l'ANB, la visite du Comeba va offrir à l'Algérie l'opportunité d'envoyer en stage de perfectionnement des athlètes et des entraîneurs algériens. L'Algérie deviendra officiellement membre du Comeba lors de la prochaine assemblée générale de cette instance régionale.
