The seventh International Dunes Marathon started in the town of Biskra, 425km in the south of Algiers, on Thursday (December 28th). Some 250 participants will compete in this year's event. Abdelmajid Rezkane, president of marathons organisation committee, says preparations for the race have been finalised and hopes it will promote Saharan tourism.
