Benfica close to Djebbour deal

May 29, 2008 -- Benfica are believed to have stepped up their interest in Panionios striker Rafik Djebbour.

Reports emanating from Portugal suggest that Benfica are lining up a fee worth €3 million for the Algerian striker.

Djebbour, 24, scored a total of 17 goals for Panionios this season, and his performances have not gone unnoticed in Europe, with clubs from England and Germany monitoring his situation.

However, the Algerian international has reportedly opted for a move to Benfica, who will play in the UEFA Cup next season after finishing in fourth place in BWIN Liga.

It is believed that Djebbour, who arrived at Panionios from Atromitos nearly a year ago, will join the Lisbon-based club on a four-year deal.

Hemdani hunted by promoted clubs

May 30, 2008 -- Brahim Hemdani's defensive qualities are being sought by all three newcomers to the Barclays Premier League. Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Hull City have expressed interest in the 30-year-old midfielder, who will be allowed to leave Rangers on a free transfer this summer.

The Algerian, a UEFA Cup finalist with Marseille and Rangers, is holding out for offers from a more established English club but with his current employers waiving their right to a fee, he will be able to negotiate a greater salary. Hemdani's experience and defensive attributes are coveted by the sides promoted from the Coca-Cola Championship as they bid to avoid repeating Derby County's instant relegation. Hemdani had cut an increasingly detached figure at Murray Park but was convinced by Walter Smith to see out the season on the agreement he would be free to leave in the summer.

Hemdani was told immediately after the Scottish Cup final that he had no future at the club, along with Thomas Buffel and Alan Gow. All three will be able to leave for nothing.....

Benfica complete Hassan Yebda capture

May 30, 2008 -- Hassan Yebda has signed a deal with Benfica which will see the midfielder at the Lisbon club for the next four years. The former Le Mans player joins the Eagles on a free transfer as his deal with the Ligue 1 outfit had expired.

The Algerian becomes Benfica’s second signing, after Ruben Amorim, and is excited to get a new start with the Portuguese giants. “I am very happy to be here,” said the radiant defensive midfielder.

“This is a club with a huge history and with many titles won. It’s an honour to play for Benfica. It’s true that we were negotiating for some weeks. There were many other clubs who wanted me from England, Germany and Italy, but I decided to play for Benfica because their project impressed me greatly.

“I have to thank Rui Costa, the coach and the president who have welcomed me warmly,” added the 24-year-old.

With the addition of Yebda, questions will be asked as to the future of current midfielder Katsouranis. The Greek international, who is preparing for Euro 2008 with Greece, has stated that has been looking to leave the club ever since his animated altercation with central defender Luisao back in January.

However, Benfica’s director of football, Rui Costa, made it clear that Yebda was not brought in as Katsouranis’ substitution, but rather to boost the current set of players that make up the squad.

L’international algérien Nadir Belhadj intéresse la Juventus

Vendredi 30 Mai 2008 -- L'international algérien, Nadir Belhadj, sociétaire du club français, le RC Lens, qui vient de rétrograder en Ligue 2, est sur les tablettes du prestigieux club italien de la Juventus. C'est ce qu'a indiqué ce matin la très sérieuse publication britannique, Times, sur son site Internet. Pour rappel, des informations avaient déjà fait part, la saison passée, de l'intérêt que porte cette équipe au joueur algérien.

Belhadj, qui a passé un difficile début de saison avec Lyon, avait été transféré vers Lens au mercato d’hiver en janvier dernier. A partir de là, il avait pris part à toutes les rencontres et a, graduellement, retrouvé son niveau habituel. L'ancien joueur de Sedan, qui se trouve actuellement avec l'équipe nationale à Dakar, pour jouer demain face au Sénégal un match pour le compte de la première journée des éliminatoires jumelées de la coupe d'Afrique et du monde 2010, intéresse également plusieurs autres clubs, à l'exemple de Bordeaux, vice champion de France, le club anglais de Portsmouth et de quelques autres équipes non moins importantes.

A Lyon, Belhadj était victime du statut de l'international italien Fabio Grosso, mondialiste, que lui préférait l'entraîneur Alain Perrin. L'international algérien n'avait joué avec Lyon, qui l'avait recruté, en janvier 2007, à Sedan contre la somme de 3,24 millions d'euros, que quelques bouts de matchs. C'est pour cela qu'il avait pris la décision de changer d'air. Il a opté donc, en janvier 2008, pour son club formateur, le RC Lens (pour 3,6 millions d'euros). Belhadj s'est, tous de suite, réimposé comme l'un des meilleurs arrières gauche du championnat français.

Madjid wanted by Rangers

June 6, 2008 -- Rangers are leading the chase to sign Charlton defender Madjid Bougherra, according to reports.

Real Betis failed with a bid for the Algerian international last month and the 25-year-old's displays have attracted interest from elsewhere, with Rangers now joining the hunt.

However, there is also Premier League interest in the African stopper, with Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Newcastle and Wigan all said to be watching the player.

Spaniards eye Bouazza move

June 6, 2008 -- Spanish side Osasuna want to sign Fulham winger Hameur Bouazza, skysports.com understands.

The Algerian international moved to Craven Cottage last season from Watford and was a regular under Lawrie Sanchez.

However, after Roy Hodgson took charge in late December he started just two games.

Now a number of clubs are ready to tempt Fulham with an offer and Osasuna are believed to be leading the chase.

The Basque side are yet to make a firm offer but they are hoping they will be able to afford to pay Fulham's asking price - as they will be looking to recoup a sizeable chunk of the £3million they paid for him last summer.

Osasuna are not the only Primera Liga side casting an eye over Bouazza with Espanyol also thought to be keen.

Espanyol could lose international winger Albert Riera this summer and Bouazza could be a ready made replacement.

Bouazza could also have options to remain in England with Wigan thought to be monitoring the situation.

L'Algérien Bouazza intéresse Osasuna et l'Espanyol de Barcelone

Vendredi 6 Juin 2008 -- L'international algérien, Hameur Bouazza, intéresse fortement deux clubs espagnols. C'est ce qu'ont révélé aujourd'hui matin des sites sportifs britanniques. Osasuna semble être le plus décidé d'entre eux à s'offrir les services de Bouazza qui évolue à Fulham dans le championnat anglais.

L'autre club intéressé par le services de l’international algérien est l'Espanyol de Barcelone qui a, terminé la saison à la 12e place. Ce dernier club est à la recherche du joueur pour remplacer Albert Riera qui va quitter l'équipe cet été. Et les responsables de l'Espanyol voient en Bouazza le parfait ailier. L'international algérien a le choix également de rester en Angleterre puisque le club de Wigan Athletic (14e en Premier League) voudrait également s'offrir ses services. Bouazza a donc l'embarras du choix concernant sa prochaine destination. Avant Fulham, il avait évolué à Watford avec lequel il a accédé en division une durant la saison 2006 - 2007.

Bouazza, qui a été convoqué par le sélectionneur Rabah Saâdane, avant l'entame du stage, le 21 mai dernier, avait pris part au premier match disputé au Sénégal, comme remplaçant, avant de rentrer chez lui. Une polémique avait suivi son départ. Pour certains, Bouazza n'avait pas accepté d'être sur le banc. Finalement, le coach national a déclaré mardi dernier que c'est son club, Fulham, qui a fait le forcing pour que le joueur rentre en Angleterre. Pour les dirigeants de Fulham, Bouazza souffre d'une blessure à l'épaule qui nécessite une intervention chirurgicale. Le joueur a, à son actif, cinq sélections. La première face à la Libye le 7 février 2007. Son seul but a été inscrit en novembre dernier face au Mali. Bouazza n'en est qu'à ses débuts en équipe nationale.
