Maghreb football teams pair off for round two of Confederation Cup

March 4, 2008 -- Drawings for the second round of the African Confederation Cup (CAF) have pitted Tunisia's CS Sfaxien against Algeria's JSM Béjaia and Esperance against Morocco's Rached Bernoussi, TAP reported. The first leg of the round is scheduled for the weekend of March 21st to 23rd. The second leg will be held in early April.

La JSM Béjaïa face au tenant

Samedi 22 mars 2008 -- Après avoir réussi une belle opération en Coupe d'Algérie la semaine dernière, les Béjaouis entameront aujourd'hui leur aventure africaine avec le match aller des 16èmes de finale de la Coupe de la CAF où ils seront opposés à la formation tunisienne du CS Sfax, tenant du trophée. Soit un match qui s'annonce difficile, d'autant plus que les camarades de Braham Chaouch joueront sur le terrain d'un rival très connu sur la scène continentale. Toujours est-il que le représentant algérien, qui prendra part à cette compétition pour la première fois, n'ira pas en touriste en Tunisie, dans la mesure où les joueurs et le staff technique sont décidés à relever le défi et faire le maximum pour honorer leur première participation et, pourquoi pas, décrocher le ticket pour le prochain tour. Interrogé à propos de ce match, le coach béjaoui El-Hadi Khezzar dira: «C'est un match de coupe qui sera certainement difficile, surtout qu'il s'agit de jouer contre le tenant.

Cependant, de notre côté, nous n'allons pas à Sfax en victime expiratoire, car nous partons avec des chances égales et nous jouerons à fond. Le moral du groupe est bon et cela est de bon augure pour nous. D'ailleurs, tous les joueurs seront prêts pour ce match et je pense que c'est l'essentiel pour nous». Les Béjaouis, qui sont arrivés dans la nuit de mercredi à Sfax, ont effectué deux séances d'entraînements dont la dernière hier après-midi à l'heure du match. Il y a lieu de relever que le CS Sfax vient d'enrôler un nouvel entraîneur, en l'occurrence Khaled Ben Yahia, tandis que sur le plan de l'effectif, il sera privé des services de quatre joueurs pour cause de blessures.

CAF second round kicks off

March 23, 2008 -- Tunisia's CS Sfaxien beat Algeria's JS Bejaia 1-0 in an African Confederation Cup (CAF) match on Saturday (March 2nd) in Sfax. Houcine Jaber scored the only goal in the 56th minute. Morocco's second-division Rachad Bernoussi executed a surprise defeat of Tunisia's Esperance 3-1 in Casablanca, while Mouloudia Algiers tied Egypt's Haras Houdoud 0-0 in Koléa, Algeria. The return matches are scheduled for the weekend of April 4th-6th.
