Algeria's U-20 team beats Tunisia in friendly

March 14, 2008 -- Algeria’s national under-20 football team defeated Tunisia 1-0 in a friendly match played on Wednesday (March 12th) in Zeralda, Algeria. Tahar Aiman scored the only goal. The two teams are set to hold a second friendly today in Rouiba, Algeria. The matches are part of the two teams' preparations for the African Juniors Cup of Nations. Tunisia's first qualifying match is scheduled for June 27th against Mali in Tunis. Algeria is expected to play Mauritania in the preliminary round of matches slated for March 28th and 30th in Nouakchott. The Cup finals will be held next January in Rwanda.

Tunisia's U-20 team defeats Algeria in second friendly

March 16, 2008 -- Tunisia's national under-20 team defeated Algeria 2-0 in the two teams' second friendly match, played Friday (March 14th) in Rouiba, east of Algiers. Algeria won the first friendly 1-0 on Wednesday in Zéralda. The two teams are preparing for the African Junior Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Cup finals will be held in January 2009 in Rwanda.

Mauritania's U-20 team defeats Algeria 1-0

April 22, 2008 -- Mauritania's national under-20 team defeated Algeria 1-0 on Saturday (April 19th) in Nouakchott in an African Nations Cup game, FAF reported. The leg-one, round-one match is scheduled to be returned between May 2nd and 5th in Algiers. If Algeria qualifies for the next round, the Algerians will clash with Gambia in July. The finals will be held in Rwanda.

Algeria U-20 team prepare for CAN qualifiers

September 1, 2009 -- The Algerian U-20 team will begin preparations for the 2011 African Nations Cup qualifiers with a training camp on September 5th, APS reported on Monday (August 31st). Coach Amine Ghimouz called up 21 players for the camp. A test game is also planned against the national U-17 squad, who are preparing for the 2009 World Cup final in October.

Algeria beat Tunisia in U-20 friendly

November 26, 2009 -- Algeria will play their final U-20 friendly against hosts Tunisia on Thursday (November 26th), TAP reported. The visitors beat the Carthage Eaglets 1-0 in a friendly on Tuesday. The friendlies are part of preparations for a UNAF tournament in Libya next month. Tunisia, Morocco and Libya will also take part in the Benghazi event.

Tunisia win UNAF U-20 tournament in Libya

December 21, 2009 -- Tunisia's U-20 squad outplayed their Maghreb neighbours to win Libya's UNAF football tournament on Sunday (December 20th), TAP reported. Morocco finished second and Algeria finished third with the same 6-point total as Tunisia. The Carthage Eaglets took the title based on the goal difference. In the final tournament matches in Benghazi on Sunday, Morocco beat Tunisia 1-0 and Algeria defeated Libya by the same score.

La sélection algérienne se prépare au Sénégal

Dimanche 14 Mars 2010 -- La sélection algérienne de football des U20 a entamé jeudi un stage de préparation d’une semaine dans la ville balnéaire sénégalaise de Sally (80 km au sud de Dakar) en prévision du premier tour préliminaire du championnat d’Afrique des nations CAN 2011 (U20). Arrivée tard dans la nuit de mercredi, la délégation algérienne, composée de 22 membres (17 joueurs et 5 dirigeants), a rallié directement la ville de Sally où elle effectuera ses entraînements, à raison d’une séance par jour, à l’institut de formation en football Diambars (guerriers en langue wolf), selon le sélectionneur national Athmane Ibrir qui s’exprimait dans une déclaration à l’APS. L’Algérie, rappelle-t-on, affrontera la Sierra Leone au tour préliminaire. Le match aller se déroulera à Freetown, entre le 16 et le 18 avril, tandis que le match retour aura lieu à Alger le 30 avril, le 1er ou le 2 mai 2010. «Il s’agit du premier séjour en Afrique pour ces joueurs dont une partie a participé à la coupe du monde U17 au Nigeria alors que d’autres éléments viennent d’intégrer la sélection», a fait savoir Ibrir qui s’est fixé comme objectif d’habituer l’équipe à jouer dans des conditions propres au continent. Après avoir fait «une bonne préparation» en Tunisie et en Algérie et dans l’attente de mettre à profit le tournoi de l’Union nord-africaine de football (UNAF) de la catégorie, prévu du 24 mars au 3 avril à Alger, «le séjour au Sénégal mettra le groupe dans une véritable ambiance africaine», a-t-il rassuré. En effet, pour le technicien Ibrir, qui reste soucieux d’initier son équipe au style de jeu africain, ce stage constitue «une véritable entrée en matière pour habituer les jeunes joueurs à évoluer dans une ambiance continentale marquée souvent par le taux élevé d’humidité et la chaleur». Précisant que le choix du Sénégal a été fait par rapport au «niveau appréciable» de ses joueurs qui ont affronté à plusieurs reprises la sélection algérienne U17 qui préparait à Alger la précédente coupe d’Afrique, M. Ibrir a ajouté qu’il soumettra son groupe à une séance d’entraînement quotidienne sous la chaleur (16h ou 17h) comme prévu dans le programme qui sera ponctué par deux matches contre l’équipe de l’institut Diambars, ouvert en 2005, et qui est un centre de formation qui mise à la fois sur l’éducation et le sport de haut niveau pour former la future élite du football sénégalais.
