June 30, 2008 -- The Federation of Algerian Motorsports plans to promote western Algeria as a racing hub, FASM chief Abdelhamid Sidi announced at a press conference Sunday (June 29th) in Oran. "The capital of western Algeria will be a pole of development of this discipline, which finds its place in the national sports movement", APS quoted Sidi as saying. Several events are planned for Oran on July 5th to illustrate the city's suitability for racing events, Sidi added.

July 7, 2008 -- The Algerian Federation of Mechanic Sports held a 3-day car and bike rally in Oran to celebrate the country's Independence Day on July 5th, APS reported. The race featured 72 pilots and co-pilots, including 14 women, representing the provinces of Algiers, Tipaza, M'sila, Setif, Biskra, Ouargla, Mostaganem and Oran.
