Wydad Casablanca lose to Al-Ittihad

December 21, 2008 -- Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca lost 0-1 to Al-Ittihad Aleppo in Syria on Friday (December 19th). The return Arab Champions League football match will take place in Casablanca on January 4th, the Atlas Lions reported.

Forfait d’El Hilal de Khartoum

Mercredi 24 Décembre 2008 -- Le club soudanais d’El Hilal de Khartoum a déclaré officiellement forfait pour le match retour contre l’ES Sétif comptant pour les huitièmes de finale de la Champions League arabe. L’Union arabe de football a informé hier la Fédération algérienne de football de la décision du club soudanais suite à des problèmes internes au club (départ de joueurs, blessures). Rappelons que l’ES Sétif avait gagné au match aller à Khartoum le 18 décembre par 2 à 1.

ES Setif advance in ACL through default win

December 24, 2008 -- Algeria's Entente Sportive de Setif ecame the first team to advance to the Arab Champions League (ACL) quarter-final after Sudan's Al Hilal withdrew from the competition, Echorouk reported on Wednesday (December 24th). The Sudanese club requested a one-month postponement of the December 26th second leg in Algeria because of its many injured players. These include goalkeeper El Moiz Mehdjoub, defender Richard Justin and midfielder Omar Bekhit. However, the Arab Football Federation rejected Al Hilal's request and maintained the game schedule. ES Setif was declared the winner by default and thus qualified to the quarter-final round.

l'USMA éliminée par l'Ismaéli d'Egypte

Dimanche 28 Décembre 2008 -- L'USMA a été sévèrement battue, dimanche après-midi, au stade de Bologhine à Alger, par le club égyptien de l'Ismaéli sur le score de 4 buts à 1 en match retour du deuxième tour de la Ligue rabe des champions de football. Durant ce match, l'USMA n'a rien fait pour l'emporter et les Egyptiens ont dominé la rencontre du début jusqu'à la fin. Les quatre buts égyptiens ont été inscrits par Mustapha Karim (43'), Abdallah Saïd (46', 85') et Omar Djamel (90'). C'est Bourahli qui a marqué le seul but de l'USMA (59'). A l'aller, l'Ismaéli l'avait emporté chez lui sur le score de 3 à 1.

Des incidents (jets de projectiles) ont émaillés la rencontre. Une minute de silence a été également observée au tout début par les deux équipes en mémoire aux victimes de Gaza.

Avec cette défaite, l'ES Séti reste le dernier club algérien en course dans cette compétition. Les Sétifiens se sont qualifiés sans disputer le match retour suite au forfait du club soudanais d'El Hillal. Ce dernier a été battu chez lui par l'ESS sur le score de 2 buts à 1. »

Esperance advance to ACL quarter-finals

December 28, 2008 -- Tunisia's Esperance ST crushed 6-1 Yemen's Al Hilal 6-1 in their Arab Champions League return match Saturday (December 27th) in Rades. Khalil Chammam, Walid Tayeb, Arbi Jaber and Wajdi Bouazzi each scored a goal, while Henri Bienvenu netted two for the EST win. Following their 2-1 victory in the first leg in Sanaa, the Tunisian team advanced on an 8-2 aggregate score to the quarter-finals.

WAC win ACL return match over Al-Ittihad

January 5, 2008 -- Wydad Casablanca won their return match against Syrian club Al-Ittihad Aleppo 2-0 on Sunday (January 4th) to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Arab Champions League, Wabayn reported. WAC were able to score near the end of what would have been a goalless draw, getting on the scoreboard in the 85th minute with a goal from Hakim Ajraoui, then with another five minutes later from Hicham Jouiâa. Wydad lost the away match 0-1 on December 19th.

ACL quarter-final draw to be held in Tunis

January 9, 2009 -- The Arab Football Union will hold the draw for the Arab Champions League (ACL) quarter-finals on January 29th in Tunis, La Presse reported on Friday (January 9th). Teams still in the race include defending champions ES Setif of Algeria,, Wydad Casablanca and Tunisian clubs Esperance, CS Sfaxien and US Monastir. The first leg matches will be held on March 3rd-4th and the return legs are scheduled for March 17th-18th.
