Première victoire de la saison pour la JS Kabylie

JS Kabylie score first win of season

November 2, 2008 -- After four nul matches and one defeat, JS Kabylie beat MC Saïda 1-0 Friday (October 31st) to score their first victory of the Algerian D1 League season. The Canaries were able to take a much-needed 3 points, thanks to Benramla's goal in the 50th minute. It took until the 10th day of the championships and a symbolic date — November 1st — to make it happen, El Watan noted.

Le RC Kouba intégré en division Une dès la 11e journée

Lundi 3 novembre 2008 -- C'est officiel. Le RC Kouba jouera en division Une championnat national de football dès la 11e journée. Pour son premier match parmi l'élite, le RCK affrontera la JS Kabylie à Kouba, selon le nouveau calendrier du championnat national rendu public lundi par la Ligue nationale de football (LNF). La 11e journée doit se dérouler les 6 et 7 novembre. L'intégration du RCK au sein de la division intervient en application d'une décision du Tribunal arbitral du sport (TAS) qui a ordonné à la FAF d'intégrer le club koubéen parmi l'élite.

Algerian league leaders struggle at home

November 4, 2008 -- In a break from routine, Round 10 of the Algerian football league was spread out over three days, ending Monday (November 3rd). Of the fixtures played on Thursday and Friday, the biggest upset came in the match between neighbours MC Algiers and CR Belouizdad, played at the Stade du 20 août 55 in Algiers.

MC Algiers clinched a 2-1 victory despite the sending-off of midfielder Hamza Koudri at the beginning of the second half. Both clubs are known for their sizeable following, and the Stade du 20 août could barely contain the fans.

JS Kabylie, who are currently bottom of the table – mainly because of their four games in hand due to their CAF Cup commitments, which are now at an end since they have been knocked out – gained the upper hand at home in Tizi-Ouzou over MC Saida.

It was the first victory of the season for the Kabyle squad, currently at the centre of a media storm now that a wealthy industrialist - Ali Haddad, the owner of the country’s largest public works firm, ETRHB – is negotiating with the club's current management over a takeover deal.

Club chairman Mohamed Cherif Hannachi, who has announced he will leave after the deal, expressed his delight at the fact that big business owners are interested in the club, which he said needs to swell its bank balance. "This sizeable sum of money will give this great club, a standard-bearer for the Kabyle region, the stature it deserves," he said on the Paris-based Berbère télévision.

However, some former managers and supporters want Hannachi to remain as chairman, such as Nacer Sandjak, a former trainer at the club.

"In football, money is not enough," Sandjak told the French network. "It's good that Haddad is investing, but I think that should happen under the auspices of an expert – Hannachi."

Another notable development during Round 10 was the semi-failure at home of leaders JSM Bejaia, after a string of good results had enabled them to build up a five-point lead over rivals NA Hussein Dey and ES Setif. Bejaia were held to a goalless draw by a determined AS Khroub.

Despite the lacklustre performance, Bejaia still enjoy a considerable lead at the top of the table.

CA Bordj Bou Arreridj and MSP Batna defeated MC El Eulma and USM El Harrach respectively, one goal to zero.

In Monday's matches, USM Algiers and ASO Chlef played to a 1-1 draw, while USM Annaba defeated NA Hussein Dey 3-1 in Annaba.

RC Kouba to mark Algerian D1 return with JSK match

November 4, 2008 -- The Algerian Football Federation announced major changes to the national championship schedule which finally put the re-integrated D1 team RC Kouba on the calendar, El Watan reported on Monday (November 3rd), noting that the FAF complied with sports arbitrators, "after months of unexplained stubbornness". For the 11th day of the championships, RC Kouba will face JS Kabylie on Thursday (November 6th) at Benhaddad stadium.

In related news, JSK made progress in the monthly ranking of the world's best football clubs from the International Federation of Football History & Statistics. The Canaries moved up from 197th to 182nd place in the IFFHS October ranking, El Watan reported.

Nouveau calendrier : des chamboulements entre la 8e et la 13e journée :
Le RCK entame le Championnat de division une ce week-end face à la JSK

Mercredi 5 novembre 2008 -- Pour la prochaine journée, prévue ce week-end, il y aura six rencontres. Le RCK va entamer la compétition, sur ses bases, face à la JS Kabylie. L’autre match de la journée opposera l’USM Harrach au CR Belouizdad. Pour les quatre rencontres restantes, il s’agit de mettre à jour ce nouveau calendrier. Il y aura donc AS Khroub–USM Alger, un match avancé de la 13e journée, ASO Chlef–JSM Béjaïa, MC Saïda–CABB Arréridj et MC El Eulma–USM Annaba, respectivement des matches de mise à jour des 8e, 9e et 10e journées. Pour la 12e journée du championnat, prévue les 13 et 14 novembre, il y aura quatre matches seulement étant donné que les quatre autres se sont déjà joués. De même pour la 13e journée prévue les 20 et 21 novembre. De la sorte, la Ligue aura «apuré» les quelques «chamboulements» survenus dans le calendrier en termes de matches qui se sont déjà déroulés et d’autres qui seront à jouer. A relever que les sept premières journées restent pratiquement sans changement. Bien évidemment, il y a eu des permutations de matches mais, grosso modo, elles sont complètes, c’est-à-dire sans matches en retard. C’est à partir de la 8e journée qu’il y a eu des rencontres reportées.

A partir de la 14e journée, les choses reprendront leur cours. Les journées se dérouleront sans les matches déjà joués. Il faut dire que la Ligue nationale de football ne pouvait mieux faire. Ce calendrier va clore définitivement l’épisode RCK–FAF même s’il faut signaler que le Raed sera confronté à un rythme effréné durant les semaines à venir puisqu’il devra jouer pratiquement deux fois par semaine afin de se mettre à niveau. Il est clair qu’il y a des mécontentements au sein des clubs de la division une. A titre d’exemple, la JSK devra faire, lors des deux prochaines journées, deux déplacements consécutifs, à Kouba (11e journée) et à Blida (12e). Et ce qui «gêne» beaucoup plus les dirigeants des Canaris, c’est le fait que le club est dans une mauvaise posture dans le championnat. La JSK vient tout juste de remporter sa première victoire face au MC Saïda (1–0).

Auparavant, elle avait fait quatre matches nuls et subi une défaite. Le coach mouloudéen, le Français Alain Michel a également affiché son mécontentement en déclarant que «c’est anormal de rester vingt jours sans jouer de match». Mais le fait est là. Les responsables de la Ligue se devaient d’établir un nouveau calendrier et ils l’ont fait. De plus, la majorité des présidents de club de la division une, lors de leur rencontre avec le président de la Fédération algérienne de football (FAF), Hamid Haddadj, qui les avait conviés à une réunion pour parler du sujet, ont dit ne pas être contre l’accession du RCK à condition de ne pas toucher aux résultats des matches des journées précédentes. Chose faite. C’est la seconde fois en l’espace de trois ans que la FAF opte pour un championnat à un chiffre impair. La première fois, c’était il y a deux saisons en division deux suite à une affaire similaire.

Algerian sports minister targets football "crisis"

November 6, 2008 -- Algerian football is in a state of crisis and the time has come for "mobilisation", Sports Minister Hachemi Djiar told premier division football club chairmen gathered for an urgent meeting in Algiers on Wednesday (November 5th), El Moudjahid reported. Telling the D1 chiefs that the problem facing national football is "everybody's business," Dijar said he called the meeting to strengthen ties between sports and government. The Minister of Youth and Sports also addressed the need for better youth football training programs, the creation of new regional leagues and how to stem fan violence. On Thursday, the minister told parliament about plans to set up a high-level committee of trainers and athletes to help define national sport policy and plan for the future participation of Algerian athletes in international competitions. The new group includes Olympic champions Hassiba Boulmerka, Noureddine Morceli and Nouria Benida Merah, local press reported.
