July 28, 2009 -- According to a report in The Times this morning, "Portsmouth have made an approach for Kamel Ghilas, who ended his first season as Celta de Vigo's top striker... The Algeria player would cost about £2million." The 25-year-old Algerian international is predominantly a striker but can also play in a slightly withdrawn role and on either wing. Ghilas is contracted to Celta de Vigo until the end of season 2010/2011 and moved from Vitoria Guimaraes to Spain on a free transfer last summer. Ghilas has consistently scored goals throughout his career, at Cannes, where he emerged; he scored 15 goals in 37 games in 2005/2006. In his first season at Vitoria, Ghilas registered 12 goals in 29 appearances and last season he scored 13 goals in 33 games in the Spanish Segunda Division. Scouts in Spain describe Ghilas as "a player who can provide assists and can also score himself, he has good positional sense in the penalty area." A selection of the goals scored by the 5.8ft striker last season can be seen on the video below:
