Kampala, Uganda, December 9, 2008 -- On Tuesday defending champions Cameroon blanked South Africa’s largely teenage army team 3–0 to top Group B of the ongoing African Military Games football tournament being played in Uganda.
South Africa bowed out as bottom placed in Group B with one point secured Sunday after their 2-2 draw with Gambia.
PANA reports that the draw was the best result the youngest side of the tournament with an average age of 21 had secured.
Cameroon will be facing hard fighters Kenya military soccer side, Ulinzi FC, in the second semi-finals Thursday.
Ulinzi are the runners-up in Group A after securing four points with hosts Simba FC that recorded a superior goals aggregate.
Yet unbeaten, Cameroon topped Group B with seven points after a goalless draw with Gambia and nipping Algeria 1–0, showing clear intentions of retaining the title.
Meanwhile, Gambia which has not won or lost a match in the tournament became effectively eliminated after their 2-2 draw with Algeria.
Despite putting a tough fight in all their three Group B qualifiers, Gambia lacked the ability to contain all their opponents, often suffering defensive mix-ups that allowed their opponents to level up, ending with just three points.
