June 10, 2010 -- The first-ever Maghreb Nations Petanque Championship will open in Agadir on June 17th, MAP reported on Wednesday (June 9th). Teams from host nation Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Mauritania and Libya will compete in the event.

June 23, 2010 -- Hosts Morocco defeated Algeria in Agadir to win the first Maghreb Nations Petanque Championship, El Moudjahid reported on Tuesday (June 22nd). Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Mauritania and Libya competed in the June 18th-20th event.

October 8, 2010 -- Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Libya and Mauritania will participate in the 45th Petanque World Championship on Friday (October 8th) in Izmir, Turkey, TAP reported. Madagascar, Benin, Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal, and Djibouti will also represent the African continent.

January 14, 2011 -- Algerian Nassima Khetab and Moroccan Fathie Targhaoui won the women's doubles title at the International Petanque Beraudier Trophy last week-end in Lyon, France, El Watan reported on Friday (January 14th). The Maghreb duo beat Croatia and world champions France before defeating Italy 13-7 in the final.

February 27, 2011 -- The Moroccan town of M'diq kicked off its first international petanque tournament on Saturday (February 26th), MAP reported. The event features 75 teams from Morocco, Algeria, France, Monaco, Spain and Sweden. Libya, Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey withdrew from the competition.
