Both teams qualify for semi-finals of Confederation Cup

September 20, 2009 -- Egypt's ENPPI have qualified for the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup after beating ES Sétif 3-1 in Algeria on Saturday. The four Group A teams thus finished level on nine points for the first time in African competitions' history after Angolan side Santos defeated DR Congo's Vita Club 1-0. Goal difference determined the two teams who booked a place in the semi-finals to be played on knockout basis. ES Sétif, who enjoy a goal difference of +5, finished top of the group, while ENPPI (+3) placed second. Ahmed Raouf and the Ivorian striker Zeka Goore scored two first-half goals and Alaa Issa added a third after the break to give ENPPI a precious victory. ES Sétif scored a consolation goal through a free-kick from Hocine Metref. ENPPI, coached by Diaa Al-Sayed, who will know their semi-final foes on Sunday when Group B matches end, have a chance to become the first Egyptian club to lift the trophy after fellow Egyptian club, Harras Hodoud, drawn in Group B, exited the competition with one match to spare.

ES Sétif - Bayelsa United (Nigeria) en demi-finales

Lundi 21 Septembre 2009 -- L’ES Sétif (Algérie), 1er du Groupe A à l’issue de la phase de poules, se déplacera au Nigeria pour y affronter, entre le 2 et le 4 octobre prochain, le Bayelsa United, second du Groupe B, en demi-finales aller de la coupe de la Confédération africaine de football (CAF), indique le site officiel de cette dernière. La match retour aura lieu entre le 16 et le 18 octobre au stade du 8-mai 1945 de Sétif. La deuxième demi-finale mettra aux prises le Stade Malien au club égyptien de l’ENPPI avec match aller chez le premier nommé.

Nigeria's Bayelsa United qualify for Confederation Cup semi-finals

September 21, 2009 -- Nigeria's Bayelsa United will clash with Entente Sétif of Algeria in the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup after they upset Group B leaders Stade Malien 1-0 away from home. However, Stade Malien still finished top of the group, with nine points, ahead of Bayelsa by virtue of having scored more away goals in their head-to-head matches. Stade Malien will thus battle ENPPI of Egypt in the other semi-final of the cup competition. The semi-finals are slated for the weekends of October 2-4 and October 16-18. Emmanuel Nwachi scored the only goal of the weekend's game. In the other group fixture, Egypt's Haras El Hodood thrashed Angola's Primeiro de Agosto 5-1. Ahmed Salama netted twice for Haras, while Ahmed Abdul-Ghani, Mohamed Halim and Ahmed Salem were all on target. But the Egyptians still finished bottom of the group with seven points, a point behind Primeiro. In a Group A game, Santos of Angola beat AS Vita Club of DR Congo 1-0. Manucho Barros found the target after eight minutes, but it was not enough to propel Santos to the semi-finals.

Aujourd'hui à Oghara : Bayelsa United - ESS :
L'obligation de résultat pour l'Entente

Samedi 3 Octobre 2009 -- Notre représentant en Coupe de la CAF, l'ESS, tentera dès cet après-midi en terre nigériane de se frayer un chemin pour les demi-finales de cette compétition face à Bayelsa United. Connaissant l'aura du football nigérian dans le continent africain, il y a fort à parier que la mission s'annonce des plus difficile pour l'Entente qui a regagné jeudi Oghara où se déroulera cette rencontre. Une chose est sûre pour les protégés de Mechiche, la qualification pour les demi-finales passe impérativement par un bon résultat au Nigeria. Contrairement à la saison écoulée où l'ESS bousculait tout sur son passage en championnat, cette saison les camarades de Raho Slimane, malgré un effectif renforcé, connaissent une baisse de régime, ce qui a provoqué dernièrement le départ de Rachid Belhout qui a mis cette mauvaise passe que traverse l'équipe en championnat sur le compte de l'indiscipline. Belhout parti, Mechiche, assisté de l'ancien joueur du club, Madoui, aura une lourde responsabilité à redresser la barre dans les meilleurs délais pour instaurer un climat de confiance, sinon bonjour les dégâts. Toutefois, au vu de la qualité de son effectif, l'Entente est appelée à ne pas décevoir. Et ceci passe impérativement par un résultat probant cet après-midi au Nigéria en prévision de son match retour prévu dans quinze jours à Sétif, au stade du 8-Mai 1945.

Samedi 3 Octobre 2009 -- L'Entente de Sétif (ESS) a pris, samedi 3 octobre, une sérieuse option pour la qualification à la finale de la Coupe de la Confédération africaine de football (CAF). L'Entente réussi à forcer le club nigérian du FC Bayelsa, sur son terrain, au partage des points dans la demi-finale de la coupe de la CAF. Les Sétifiens, champions d'Algérie en titre, menés au score ont égalisé en seconde période à la 80' par l'intermédiaire de Ziaya sur penalty. Le match retour est prévu le 18 octobre à Sétif. L'autre demie finale se joue entre l'ENPPI (Egypte) et le Stade malien.

Bayelsa United 1 - Entente Sétif 1:
Algerians hold United to a draw

October 3, 2009 -- Nigeria's Bayelsa United face an uphill task going into the return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final against Entente Sétif of Algeria after they were held to a 1-1 draw in the first encounter on Saturday. In front of a disappointing crowd at the Oghara Township Stadium, Martins Ojobo scored for the home side after 69 minutes when he fired a shot into the top left corner of the Algerian net off a free kick. However, the visiting Algerians restored parity in the 80th minute through Ziaya Abdelmalik, who netted from the penalty spot after midfielder Gege Toriola brought down an Algerian inside the box. The North Africans were the better team for most of this game and would have grabbed the match winner but for the alertness of Bayelsa United goalkeeper Bassey Akpan. The second leg match will be played in Algeria in a fortnight. The other Confederation Cup semi-final is between Mali's Stade Malien and ENPPI of Egypt.

ES Sétif to play CAF Cup semi-final return match

October 16, 2009 -- ES Sétif will host Nigeria's Bayelsa United ES in a CAF Cup semi-final return game on Friday (October 16th). The away leg in Oghara ended in a 1-1 draw. A victory in Sétif would give the Algerian squad their second trip to a continental competition final since 1988, APS noted.
