    Taekwondo in Algeria


    April 14, 2009 -- Algeria's National Taekwondo Championship in the senior class will begin on Thursday (April 16th) in Algiers, La Dépêche de Kabylie reported. According to the Algerian Taekwondo Federation, the event features eight weight classes for men and women.

    February 5, 2010 -- The 4th Maghreb Taekwondo Championships begin in Oran on Friday (February 5th), APS reported. Tunisia, Morocco, Libya and Algeria will participate in the event. Host Algeria will be represented by 64 male and female athletes.

    Mardi 9 Février 2010 -- De nombreux membres de l’assemblée générale de la Fédération algérienne de tae kwon do ont saisi le ministère de la Jeunesse et des Sports pour l’invalidation de l’AG ordinaire, qui s’est déroulée le week-end dernier à Oran. Ils contestent le lieu du déroulement, hors de la capitale, de cette réunion, alors que les textes stipulent clairement que les AG doivent se tenir à Alger tout en rappelant l’invalidation de celle de la FA de karaté tenue en 1998 à Skikda. Aussi, les contestataires assurent n’avoir pas reçu les bilans moral et financier dans les délais statutaires, soit quinze jours avant l’AG, et qu’ils ont été invités à télécharger le document en question du site Internet de la Fédération quelques jours seulement avant la réunion ; une pratique non prévue par les textes réglementaires.

    November 22, 2010 -- The African Senior Taekwondo Championships begin Monday (November 22nd) in Tripoli. Some 240 male and female athletes from 19 countries, including Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and hosts Libya, are expected to participate in the event through November 26th.

    November 26, 2010 -- The Libyan senior taekwondo team won the 10th African Championships Wednesday (November 24th) in Tripoli. Egypt finished second and Morocco took the team bronze. Algerian Lamine Mokdad won the title in the men's 54kg, Seif Trabelsi of Tunisia won the men's 74kg category, and Tunisia's Zeinab M'Sadi won the women's 46kg title. Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Sudan, Senegal, Angola, South Africa, Kenya , Mali, Côte d'Ivoire, DR Congo, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Tanzania and hosts Libya participated in the event.
