December 22, 2009 -- Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra has been named Algerian player of the year in an internet poll. Bougherra helped his country reach next summer's World Cup finals in South Africa, scoring against Zambia in June. The player flew home to collect his award and is expected back on Tuesday. He has upset the Ibrox club previously by returning late from national duty. The centre-half is likely to miss the Old Firm match on 3 January while preparing for the African Nations Cup. However, the Algeria coach Rabah Saadane has given Bougherra permission to play against Hibernian on Sunday 27 December before joining his international team-mates in France as they prepare for the finals in Angola.
