Hosts Sudan win third place trophy at CHAN

February 25, 2011 -- Hosts Sudan have beaten Algeria 1-0 to win the third place medal at the African Nations Championship in Khartoum. Mudather Eltaib scored the only goal of the game for the Nile Crocodiles in the 37th minute of the match. 5,000 fans were in the stadium, in contrast to Sudan's semi-final game with Angola which was watched by about 40,000 fans. The tournament's final will be contested between Angola and Tunisia later on Friday.

Tunisia win 2011 CHAN

February 27, 2011 -- Tunisia were crowned 2011 African Nations Championship (CHAN) winners Friday (February 25th) in Sudan, following their 3-0 victory over Angola. Mejdi Traoui (48'), Zouhaier Dhaouadi (73') and Oussama Darragi (79') scored the for the Carthage Eagles' win. Algeria lost 1-0 to hosts Sudan in a game for CHAN third-place honours. "Overall, the performance was positive, despite the disappointment of the team's elimination in the semi-finals," Algeria coach Abdelhak Benchikha told APS.

L'entraîneur des Verts satisfait

Lundi 28 Février 2011 -- L'entraîneur national Abdelhak Benchikha s'est déclaré satisfait de la performance des Verts, qui ont atteint les demi-finales du 2e Championnat d'Afrique des nations 2011 (CHAN-2011) réservé aux joueurs évoluant dans les clubs africains, dans un entretien publié ce lundi 28 février. "Si on parle généralement de la participation algérienne, je peux dire que nous avons réalisé un bon parcours. Un résultat satisfaisant. Nous avons atteint notre objectif, à savoir arriver en demi-finale", a-t-il déclaré au quotidien Liberté. "Notre élimination s'est faite en demi-finale et après les penalties (contre la Tunisie, ndlr) sans pour autant perdre le match", a-t-il ajouté. Mais il regretté que le joueur Soudani ait "vu son niveau reculer durant les trois dernières rencontres du CHAN et cela à cause de l'engouement médiatique dont il a bénéficié". L'entraîneur a indiqué qu'il envisageait d'arrêter d'entraîner la sélection A' algérienne pour mieux se concentrer sur la A qui se prépare pour les éliminatoires de la CAN-2012 et son match décisif face au Maroc fin mars.
