Algeria, South Africa vie to host CAN U-20

March 3, 2011 -- Algeria applied to CAF to host the CAN 2011 U-20 tournament, El Watan reported on Thursday (March 3rd). Libya was scheduled to host the March 18-April 1 event. The other host nation contender is South Africa.

South Africa to host CAN U-20

March 16, 2011 -- South Africa will host the 2011 CAN U-20 tournament, CAF President Issa Hayatou said Tuesday (March 15th) in Marrakech, TAP reported. Organisers were forced to change the location because of violent clashes in Libya. Initially scheduled for March 18th-April 1st, the African Youth Championship will now be held April 14th-May 2nd. Libya, Mali, Egypt and Lesotho will play in Group A, while Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana and Nigeria will play in Group B. The semi-finalists will represent Africa at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia next July.

CAN-2011 (U-20) :
Benouza et Benarous officieront à la phase finale

La Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) a retenu deux arbitres algériens, Mohamed Benouza et Mohamed Benarous pour officier à la phase finale de la Coupe d'Afrique des nations des moins de 20 ans (U20), prévue du 17 avril au 1er mai prochain à Johannesburg (Afrique du Sud). Au total, la CAF a retenu seize arbitres, dont huit directeurs de jeu. Ce tournoi, rappelle-t-on, devait initialement se dérouler en Libye du 18 mars au 1er avril, a été délocalisé en raison de la situation qui prévaut dans ce pays. L'Afrique du Sud remplace la Libye dans le groupe "A" qui comprend également l'Égypte, le Mali et le Lesotho tandis que le groupe "B" est formé du Ghana, du Cameroun, du Nigeria et de la Gambie. Les demi‑finalistes représenteront le continent africain à la Coupe du monde U20 qui aura lieu en Colombie du 29 juillet au 20 août 2011.
