Two big football stadiums with a capacity of 35,000 to 40,000 seats will be built up, in Algiers, and delivered in 2007, to face the problem of dilapidation of football stadiums existing in the capital. Planned in the East and the West of the capital Algiers for a global cost of 7 billion DA, the two new stadiums should be operational in 2007, on the occasion of the upcoming African games, scheduled in Algeria, according to Algiers Youth and Sports management (DJS).

DJS managers in collaboration with specialised laboratories have already started the locating operation of fields likely to be selected for the achievement of these two sports infrastructures .

A first invitation to tender for the survey of these two projects will be shortly launched, DJS technical department underlined.

The construction of these two big stadiums has become an absolute necessity, considering the limited number of sports compounds in the capital and mainly their worrying state, which constitutes a source of concern for sports authorities.

Other actions are planned by Algiers DJS to improve the present situation of football stadiums. In this regard, Ben Hadad stadium of Kouba will shortly undergo new constructions and an extension of its capacity which will reach 18,000 seats. Works should start, in November, following the invitation to tender.

Prevention constitutes also a priority for Algiers DJS managers. Indeed, a survey is carried out by its specialised departments for the development of a technical data sheet of every stadium, in order to define priorities and needs of every stadiums and release funds.
