Algeria's 2005 African Basketball Championships campaign to a sudden halt today when the Algerians were humiliated on their home court by a tough Senegalese team. The Algerians were dominated from the start and could not keep up with the West African team. Algeria's big man, Mourd Boughedir, one of the top players on the team, was injured early in the game, and his absence had a huge effect on the game's outcome. The 48 points Algeria scored was the fewest in games played in 2005 by the Algerian team. Sofiane Boulaya was the top scorer for the team with 12 points. Bouziane and Haif also added in 8. Senegal will face Angola in the finals. The win means both teams qualify to the 2006 World Cup in Tokyo, Japan. Algeria will face a crucial third/fourth place game tomorrow against Nigeria, in which the winner will also qualify for the 2006 World Cup.
