Il y a des 'threads' avec des photographies, là sont des 'threads' avec des liens aux sites Web contenant des photographies d'Algérie. Regardez encore plus soigneusement - il y a peut-être des milliers de photographies de l'Algérie sur 'Algeria.com'. Et naturellement, tout le monde peuvent ajouter plus de photographies à tout moment!

I was about to make a suggestion in this line of thought and luckily (or not) I bumped on the above. But, I'm not particularly interested in the " grands projets" or anything to promote business [although why not?].

What I would have liked to see, on a day like this, ie Eid al-Adha, are pictures of Eid celebrations, maybe family pictures from those who don't mind displaying them), and images of celebrations by Algerians living abroad [USA, UK, Australia, etc.] This 'Area of Activity' would be permanent and regularly renewed by users who should be enabled to upload images (naturally submitted for approval first) then displayed under ' IMAGES' users can click on to view.

I don't know if I'm making myself clear or not, but to see an example of what I'm talking about, please have a peak at a sister (?) website called MUXLIM, where I am also a contributor under the same name [shame!]. This feature is SO popular there that they have now decided to do away with the forums!!

I am not suggesting that Algeria 'copycats MUXLIM', just draw some inspiration and create a distinctive product that would be appropriate for Algeria.com.

The advantages of such area of activity are numerous. [The dangers have to be taken on board and dealt with.] If they can do it, we can do it better.

Re: photographs

Any member, at any time, can post photographs or video clips to the forum if they wish. It is not the responsibility of the site to post photographs or any other material in the forum area, as with a U.S.-based owner and South Africa-based administrators, where precisely are they supposed to source regular photographs of daily life in Algeria? The people who can be relied upon to have access to or who can create images of life in Algeria are...... Algerians. Plus of course, workers and travellers from other lands, who are passing through Algeria for a time. The forum area is a 'do-it-yourself' section - nobody gets paid for putting anything in here, it relies completely on voluntary efforts and on what members decide to input. So, with respect, as on all occasions when someone asks "Why isn't 'X' in here?" my answer is - "Because you haven't put it in here".

Another serious issue relating to photographs is this - a banned pervert, Lazhar Rekik, stole or otherwise obtained personal photographs of female members of this site and proceeded, via Paint programmes, Photoshop, and a .gif making programme, to produce graphic pornographic images, using the faces of those he had elected to abuse, superimposed on images - moving and still - from his pornography collection. He attempted to blackmail horrified, anxious, distressed and frightened individuals, with threats to post his sick images online, with the real names of the persons involved. The site administration hold copies of his material, plus copies of his abusive correspondence to more than one female.

That one twisted freak was all it took to result in a 'no personal photographs' rule coming into play on this site. Because there is no way that decent, inoffensive people should have to run the risk of having their photographs abused by any sick and twisted pervert and unfortunately Rekik proved beyond all shadow of a doubt that that is exactly what he is and we have to assume that there are others in the world like him.

Speaking personally, I am astonished at how many people do upload personal material, without giving any thought to the type of sick creatures that infest the Internet, including those who, like Rekik, try to portray themselves as pious Muslims, and the abusive purposes that such uploaded material can be used for. You would vomit if I spelled out the type of images that the perverted freak produced and no way on earth is any woman here going to be abused that way again. And on top of random perverts, there are also dedicated gangs of scammers that lurk offline on sites, day and night, harvesting personal information such as email addresses and photographs, which they use in their 419 and 'romance' scams.

People need to be a lot more careful about personal security online, the Internet is infested with vermin. And it is a sad fact that we have had to deal with more than one Algerian pervert or abuser of women here. If limits on light-hearted and what should be 'fun' activities exist, then the blame lies not in any killjoy spirit but with the abusive scum that have, in the past, shamed themselves here.

Thanks for the reply Al-Khiyal. I understand what you're saying, and I believe you made the same points to me before. I totally agree when it comes to personal photographs. I think you would be shocked if you saw how many are actually displayed by the website I refered to earlier. However, it's not all about 'faces'. It's also about places, art, amateur photography, beautiful Islamic glitter graphics, fun photos, weird creatures, stupid signs and notices, cute animals, mosques, mountains, beaches etc etc. Just have a look. It might be a great idea, and as I said, Alg.com could do it better. Their CEO is only 24 years old!! Please try Al-Khiyal. Give it the benefit of the doubt. It IS sustainable and Algeria.com only need to monitor the 'experiment'. Try it. Who knows?! Sometimes, it pays to take risks. No one is suggesting a 'free for all'.
