Hello there, salam aleykum. Im planning to travel to Algeria on the 21st February. I would be arriving in the capitalīs airport and, since I need some relatives to pick me up from there, I wanted to ask you if you know if it is possible to access the airport by road after the recent events (the demonstration) which have taken place there. Thanks very much, sahit bezzaf.

w/salam wa mar7aba, ya Shamia,
At present it is 'business as usual' in Algiers, which does include a number of checkpoints on certain routes that can result in some delays to journey times. However, compared to last weekend, the degree of traffic control is much lighter. There is another rally planned for Algiers (and also rallies in other places) on February 19th, two days before your intended arrival. Whether this turns out to be a re-run of last weekend's events - an attempted march and a dispersal after some hours - or whether people may try to stage a 'sit-in' and thus extend the duration of security measures remains to be seen. Unfortunately it will not be possible to have a clear idea of how the roads are going to be until after the 19th. insha'allah all will be well and your family can have a problem-free run to the airport to collect you.

Salam ya Shamia, low turn-out, people drifted home relatively quickly, the traffic arrangements were far less disruptive today - I'd say you'll get a smooth enough run, insha'allah. Enjoy your trip, fi aman Allah daeman.
