Oran - A mere oilcloth laid down on the ground and "the store is open" every where, in a public square, or even, on the pavement: tens of photo reproductions showing areas, districts from the antic period in Oran or political and historical personalities are proposed to passers-by, arousing the passion of Oran people. The presence of the seller, who took up residence nearby 1er Novembre square, attracts the attention of passers by, captivated by the originality of this trade.

Those who stopped for a while there, will discover the different "products" such as : old photos of the beginning of the century showing Oran's districts, historical figures including Messali Hadj, Emir Abdelkader, Ben Bella, Ahmed Zabana, Houari Boumediene, the President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, or still singers such as Ahmed Wahby, Blaoui Houari, Chab Hasni and some other ones.

Black and white photos "are next to" others in colour or merely coloured. Some others are mounted under glass, that represents for the purchaser some values. With 30 DA, one can buy a photo of one's choice. This trade seems to do well considering the demand. Almost all those who stop at this "shop" end up buying a photo. An unquestionable sign of this success: the presence in the premises of this second hand dealer, very early in the morning and who leaves this square only as "F'tour" approaches in this fasting month (Ramadan).

"My photos refer to a period, place and men that people rediscover with nostalgia. I give them the possibility, for few Dinars only, to come back home, with a part of their memories" this trader explains, preferring to remain anonymous and not unveil the origin of this iconographic treasury.
