    Saha Fortunato,

I personally know the guys who were driving that Sonacome truck that won the Paris - Alger - Dakar rallye. One of them we used to call him 3ami Bouzid. They knew the Sahara very well. My father beat a couple of times though in races (on dirt tracks -pistes-) for instance from Wargla to Timimoun or El Meni3a. Anyway, when they won the Rallye to Dakar, they gave them 1,000 DA each Can you believe that. And the irony is that they lost them right afterward.Have you ever assitsted to the Rallye? Man I was always attracted to those bikes. I used to see them ride on dirt tracks (around wargla) at 120 MPH crazy khaliss. Take care.

The first truck team winner in 1980 were the Ataquat/Bourkrif/Kaoula, racing a strange sounding to me machine Sonacome. Than in 1982 Groine/De Salieu/Malferiol winned the race with their Mercedes, starting the good years for the German manufacturer - same team winned again with Mercedes next year and that styed unchanged untill 1990, when Villa/Delfino/Vinante winned with their Perlini machine. The Perlini team winned the race for four years one after another untill 1994, when the TATRA team Loprais/Kalina/Stachura winned, seting up the contest between TATRA and KamAZ. KamAZ team Moskovskih/Kouzmine winned in 1996 and Tchaguine/Yakoubov/Savostine in 2000. Loprais/Kalina/Hamerla with their TATRA winned the last 23-th Dakar Rally.
