While much attention is being paid to the war in Iraq, issues regarding women in the Middle East are also making headlines in Arab media...
Women, not just wars, on Arab media's minds
"...A similar pattern is happening in Algeria. According to official statistics provided by the Algerian National Academy for Statistics, 11 million Algerian women are unmarried, including five million over the age 35. About 200,000 Algerian women become a’wanes every year..."

What limit age did they consider to have this information?Originally posted by Al-khiyal

The average marriage age for a DZ man is now above 30 and it is 28 for a DZ woman.
The article states that north african women get unmarried at late ages because of western influence (women want to be independant, have a career,...etc). Why isn't this factor considered for middle-east women?? (in fact no reason is suggested for the latter!)
As for algeria, not only the women are unmarried but also the men, very logic
. But the career and financial independance is not the only reason. a majority of our youths are jobless (17% unemployment rate and some say 30%). Many find a stable job after their 30s, they need to work a long time before they can own a house, a car, or just pay the dowry....
Economy is behind this phenomenon

Algerian youths disgusted by current system
50 years after independence war, Algerian youths see little hope of finding jobs in country still showering benefits on mujahedeen.
By Boubker Belkadi and Abdellah Cheballah - ALGIERS
While older Algerians may take pride in their independence struggle against France, the young view it with disillusion, saying that after 50 years they have yet to taste any benefits.
With unemployment among the under 30s touching 50 percent, young people are deeply opposed to a system that has showered benefits on the independence fighters known as mujahedeen and their heirs, but left them devoid of hope for the future.
