Arab women getting increasingly addicted to shisha

Despite the society continuing to frown upon the phenomenon of women smoking, and studies closely linking the shisha (hubble-bubble) to various diseases, including cancer of the mouth, Arab girls are enjoying it, and the number of female smokers is on the rise, according to the Arabic daily Al Watan.

"The hubble-bubble, once the exclusive pleasure of the Arab man, is now also smoked in public and private places in our communities as well as women-only areas," the daily reported recently.

It reported R.Y. as describing how an innocent puff in middle school turned into an addiction. "It all started out at a women's café. Things then developed to the point that I was no longer able to kick the habit. Therefore, I took advantage of my mother being constantly busy and my father always on the run travelling and got myself my own hubble-bubble to smoke at home," R.Y. said....

I actually had not realised that there were studies conducted to investigate the effects of Shisha smoking. I assumed that one could just extrapolate the results of cigarette smoking.

I smoke shisha tewice a week on average but not regularly at all.

My friend from Jordan is not aware of anybody who had a disease because of shisha, although they do smoke it in Jordan a lot.
