South Africa - - A 27-year-old man has been fined R1,000 - after he tried to dupe his employers into believing that a gynaecologist had booked him off sick for seven days.
The Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court heard that Charles Sibindana stole a medical certificate from the Medi-Clinic centre in the city during his pregnant girlfriend’s medical check up.
He then faked details and submitted the letter after being absent from work for seven days.
His employers got suspicious because he was a man, not a pregnant woman, and investigated the matter.
On passing sentence, Magistrate Bruno van Eeden jokingly warned Sibindana “not to walk around faking sick letters from gynaecologists” as if he was pregnant.
He ordered that Sibindana pay half of the money, but suspended the other half for five years provided he did not commit another crime.
