    Salam,

Mayissa your posts are all very informative and experience based which is great, however i do feel that there are some pieces of info that are out of date and slightly incorrect, so anyone using this thread as gospel really needs to get more up-to-date facts and processes.

One thing that did catch my eye is when you stated that an applicant requires minimum 6 months payslips/bank statements but ideally a yr to 18 months worth...Thats not completely correct and could alarm anyone wanting to apply, especially younger applicants who are only just starting out. They say that 6 months is the ideal but 3 months worth is also acceptable.

Hope you don't mind my input and please correct me if you feel im wrong.

The posts are not from "personal" experience, yes they are out of date as requirements were posted a some time ago....Regarding proof of funds and income, many people were not granted immediate spousal visas as they did not have enough payslips and proof of income, therefore at the time it was "advised" to take 1 year to 18 months to prove a steady income to sponsor the spouse who would join you. It is always best to exceed the recommended minimum and provide more than enough infomation upon your application,

    thank you

I have been reading this forum with interest and have experienced most of what everyone has been through, (visa process and refusal , passport expired etc etc). I married in November 2008 to an Algerian in the UK (islamic wedding) and a civil marriage in Algeria in May 2009. My husband went back to Algeria to go through the visa process in April 2009 and he is still there ! we have a 3 month old baby which he missed the birth of and he is missing her first months. She went to visit her daddy last month !

His visa was refused for a couple of reasons, he wasnt on council tax bill, no photos of us together (which there were several attached !) i have only been to Algeria once to visit him (i have been 4 times and they had evidence of that, copy of my stamped visa and flight documents) ! ! I appointed a solicitor and i am now waiting for the hearing date next month.

I am really worried as this hearing will decide whether my husband comes home to me and his daughter or not ! Just wondered if anyone has been through a settlement refusal hearing at all ? ?
They cannot refuse him for not being on a council tax bill!!!!... as he was not legally in the UK therefore would not be able to be on a council register!! Photos yes but if they were attached then this should be included in your appeal. Same goes for proof of regular contact. Trust me the hearing will be thrown out of court and he will join you soon, those are ridiculous reasons to not grant him a visa, make sure you also have a paternity test to prove he is the father of your baby, on those grounds they cannot refuse as it is an infringement of your human rights....you see who ever posted about me being pedantic in regards to pay slips etc.....now they are refusing people on ridiculous grounds...

I forogt to add, you might consider contacting your local MP - a letter from a Member of Parliament can also go a long way good luck

    Marrying an amazing algerian man

    Hi

Your thread has been so helpful, thank you.

My fiance has recently gone back to Algeria because of visa issues we both decided that it would be the best option as we desperately want too be together but want to do it in the best possible way.

We are looking to getting married in Algiers. My fiance is already there and has completed the form at the Wilaya to request permission to marry. Do you know how long i would need to be in Algeria before we can marry as this seems to be unclear. The Wilaya said that i need to visit Algeria for at least 15 days to complete the paper work in person with my fiance, is this correct. I was then hoping to return to England while we wait for the approval then return again to marry.

Your advice would be very much appreciated.

I hope everything was successful for you.

A Translation in Arabic with an official stamp, this can be done in Algeria costs about £12 per translation.

Certificate of no impediment to marriage – this is obtained from a local registry office and stamped at the foreign and common wealth office. You will need to make an appointment be interviewed and it will take approx 28 days to receive your certificate after your records are checked.

    4 Passport sized photographs.

The Groom would need the following documents.

Birth Certificate - an up to date copy as they expire in Algeria every 6 months

Certificate to show no previous marriage or declared previous marriage – this is available from the town hall in Algeria again an up to date copy as they expire in Algeria every 6 months

Residency certificate an up to date copy.

    Passport/ID card

    4 Passport size photographs

Both Parties would need the following documents.

A blood test done in Algeria

Testing blood group and for any diseases etc this is done for both spouses.

Then a declaration from a doctor to declare that both can marry - this is now a legal requirement in Algeria for the time being.

Make three photocopies of everything as documentation needs to be given to several different departments.

You will need to make an initial appointment at a centre for marriages to foreigners. You will fill out application forms.

This application will then be passed on to the “poste police” you will then receive an appointment at the “poste police” and be interviewed.

Your application will be processed and you will then be given a date for your marriage in around 6 weeks time.

The whole process from beginning to end takes around 6 weeks to get the appointment for marriage at the town hall.

Please note all documents in English must be translated into Arabic this can be done in Algeria.
