quick qestion, does anyone know if you need o apply in person? Or can my partner apply on his own? Just I think its doubtful I'd get the time off work to apply in person, then have to fly back for the interview whenver they decide, and the solicitors made it sound like I didnt have to be there for the original application, just the interview? Maybe Mayissa knows *looks expectantly at Mayissa*

No, you don't have to be in Algeria when your partner applies. He can go alone to the consulate. As for the interview, if they require one then they will most likely interview you're partner and if this is unsatifcatory they may call you up. However, they may arrange a phone interview with since you are not in Algeria.

Hi, oh no, our application didn't take 2 years. It's just that I had to wait for my divorce to come through and then we had to go to Tunisia and then when it was denied I had to put my flat on the market and then give 2 months notice at work blah blah blah but it was still 2 years apart.
Felicity, my experience is that they don't really need you for anything. I was told that the entry clearance officer was sure I loved my husband, but needed to know how committed he was to the relationship rather than my feelings towards him and therefore I wasn't required at interview. However, once I'd moved to Algeria and we reapplied 6 months later, the entry clearance officer rang me for a chat and she said we had obviously proved ourselves now and they gave him a visitors visa.

I thought I had explained this to you previously, evidence of regular contact etc........
No, i meant how does the ECO assess whether the couple's marriage is genuine and thier level of committment towards each other based on the visa application. At the moment my husband and I are always in contact BUT that is irrelevant now since we handed in the application over 7 weeks ago.
