Hello
I am English and my fiance is Algerian and we are planning to get married in Algeria later this year. I am trying to gain clarification of what we need in order to obtain the authorisation to marry in Algeria & would be grateful for any advice.
As I understand it I will need to provide the following:
Birth certificate copy (legalised by FCO & translated into Arabic)
Certificate of no impediment to marriage (legalised by FCO & translated into Arabic)
Passport
4 Passport photos
And my fiance would need to provide the following
Birth Certificate
Certificate to show no previous marriage or declared previous marriage
Residency certificate
Passport / ID card
4 Passport photos
Then when we are in Algeria we would both need the following:
Blood test
A declaration from a doctor to declare that both of us can marry
Then when we have all of the above we need to make an initial appointment at a centre for marriages to foreigners, fill out the forms which is then passed on to the “poste police”. Then we receive an appointment at the “poste police” to be interviewed.
Does this all sound about right?
Also is there any website which would have confirmation of what is required?
Many thanks
Beth

Hi Beth .
I got married in Algeria 14th April
i got the certificate of no impediment made but it wasnt asked for over there. My birth certificate and decree absolute was translated in Algeria but was translated in French! not Arabic. Yes u need the blood test it just a pin prick in finger to check blood group the poste police was nothing to worry about. A word of warning - we applied in Algeria to marry when i was there end october 2009 and didnt get the OK until 1st week in feb !!!! and still wasnt certain we had all papers until i arrived there 12th April . It was a very low key affair and informal compared to UK registry wedding, we had english translators with us and signed several pieces of paper and took fingerprints, but at last all done now.
Have you been to Algeria yet ? i have been 3 times now it's a lovely friendly country .
regards Emma x

Thanks Emma (and hi to Felicity too)
Congrats on getting married recently & thanks for your advice. We're heading to Algiers in July to apply for the authorisation, it will be my first visit & will be meeting my fiance's family too so equally nervous and excited! We are hoping that as we are doing everything in Algiers it should reduce any delays. In July will be going for 2 weeks so hope that will be enough time to get everything sorted & have the interview at the Poste Police. Then we wait!
Best wishes
Beth
