Hijab & fashion, do they mix?

Can you wear Hijab & still be fashionable at the same time? What's your opinion? =)

i think its silly to turn your religious obligation into a something as fickle as fashion. when i see the younger girls wearing tight garments with a scarf on ( or a tight hijab) it makes me really sad. The hijaab concept has become blurred with so many muslim women. Its not about having your cake and eating it. there are limits to hijaab, if you want to adopt it then leave fashion at the door.

its not about 'hey look at me, i've got the muslim label, but i'm also like you girls and follow fashion'.

alot of people i speak too feel the same, even men, old and young. Don't misunderstand my point, i don't think all muslim women should wear the colour black. And different countries have their own style- which is fine if it fits the criteria of hijaab. But someone with skinny jeans and a tight top, topped off with a scarf - thats just wrong.

one more thing, hijaab isn't about the seasons, unlike fashion. Neither is hijaab a concept re-invented. revamped by designers (whom ultimately want to dictate what women look good in)

    well said sister Ruks

I would also like to add that the great thing about hijab is just the simplicity of it which I find very beautiful.

yes its pretty sad that the concept of hijab has become blurred these days like you say. In my experience my family have a big problem with the way I dress they want me to be all 'stylish' and I have seriously given on explaining the concept of hijab to them (for now). Its one thing to have pressure to conform to what society dictates on how you should dress but added pressure from family is far worse in my opinion, you just feel lost. Its not nice to made fun out of by your own family.

I think thats why there alot of 'confused' hijabis around because of those pressures.
