Oh, so Tipaza is an ancient place. I see. Are you sure a woman of dubious origin did not found it? Lol.
I am going to find out more about Tipaza. It sure peaked my interest.

There is a woman involved after all!
Hmmm, quite curious and interesting.
Wikipedia is not my favorite and most trustworthy source of info....but it was interesting reading about the martyr there. A woman by the name of Salsa. And many inhabitants of Tipaza fleeing to Spain....I think the slang word in Spanish might be associated with Ancient Phoenicians after all. Spain had a large number of Phoenicians who lived in Spain and influenced Spanish culture most deeply.
Wow...could be that Tipaza does have some kind of Spanish slang origin having to do with a North African Algerian town. Salsa though is our traditional dancing style. Puerto Rico's traditional sounds in music are bomba y plena. Cuba's is son. Dominican Republic's are bachata and merengue.
Salsa ( a woman Christian martyr of ancient origins in Phoenicia) and Tipaza the town...interesting. Thank you for the information.
Those Romans sure got around didn't they?

Look there was a woman involved in that town after all....quite unexpected really. She supposedly threw the head of a serpent that was worshipped into the sea and was stoned to death for being a Christian. They made her a martyr. Her name was Salsa. And many of the inhabitants of the town were shipped off to Spain. Who knows? Maybe that is where the slang in Spanish term came from? Language never ceases to amaze me with its rich history.
