Growing trend of Veil bans around the world

First just want to say sis Al-Khiyal is doing a great job with all these news updates. Algeria forum is now one of my primary sources for news.

This week has been very eye-opening for me especially with all these stories of the sweeping Veil bans. Everytime I log into my facebook and gmail I have been disturbed by what is going on.

Just had an email from a sister in Canada pleading for support about a proposed Bill 94 in Quebec that aims to ban Niqabi sisters from public places.

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi,

A group of sisters here in Toronto & Peel are trying to organize various events for the following Jummah's leading upto May 17, 2010. The events are in highlight of the current situation happening in Quebec, where a ban Bill94 is setting to be placed in action as of May 17, 2010.

The sisters are urging every ummah, imam, masjid, muslim to please take part in this fight to protest against the Bill94 Ban of Niqabs in the public sector of Quebec.

If you have the time please read over the attached drafted letter and link below and please respond to me asap in order for us to update you on what we have gotten so for in action of this event.

Your efforts in supporting us are greatly needed! Please do not ignore this email and the sisters attempt to Fight in the Cause of Allah (swt) and the Prophet's (saw) sunnah of sisters right and will to wear the niqab.

The governement seeks to discriminate and limit the lives of niqabi sisters and many other muslim sisters around the world and even at home. It is our Muslim duty to fight back for our rights that are governed in this democratic country and the Quran.

There is a facebook page and the site shows what you can do by emailing the politician who is actually proposing this Bill.

I was looking at the protect hijab fb page and there is even a group made by algerians against the secular government's stance on Hijab

It just made me think about what is going on in Tunisia as well same story.

We need to make some strong dua.
