South Korea will set up a task force to look at ways of promoting and expanding economic cooperation with Algeria, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said Friday.
The task force will be made up of officials from various government ministries, including foreign affairs and construction, and will be chaired by vice industry minister Kim Jong-kap.
The body will be tasked with mainly helping South Korean companies do business in Algeria and plan joint resources development ventures in the oil-rich country.
The establishment of the task force follows the visit to the North African country by South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun last month. During the visit, the South Korean leader and Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika agreed to raise bilateral relations to the level of a "strategic partnership."
In addition to government agencies, the Korea International Trade Association and private organizations are expected to play a part in the task force.
