    President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika had one-to-one talks, Saturday at the presidential palace, with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohamed Khatami, currently on a three-day State visit to Algeria.Talks were thereafter extended to the members of both delegations.

    The Iranian president visited on Saturday the martyrs sanctuary in Algiers, where he stood in silent remembrance of the martyrs of the Algerian revolution. After having reviewed a detachment of the Republic guard, the Iranian president laid a spray of flowers on the commemorative stele and read the Fatiha. Mohamed Khatami was accompanied by Higher Education and Scientific Minister Rachid Harraoubia.

    Earlier in the afternoon, Algeria’s guest visited the

    National Museum of the Moudjahid (war veterans) in Algiers. Accompanied by Rachid Harraoubia, President Khatami visited the various sections in the museum, where he received explanations about the stages of Algeria’s history before French colonialism up until independence. The Iranian president listened to stories about the various popular resistance movements, such as those of Emir Abd El Kader, Bouamama, El Mokrani and El Haddad.

    President Khatami also visited a photo exhibition representing the various stages of Algeria’s political struggle which led to the break out of the Algerian revolution in November 1954 to free the country from the colonial yoke. At the end of his visit, Mohamed Khatami signed the museum’s golden book.

    The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohamed Khatami, arrived Saturday in Algiers, for a three-day State visit at President Bouteflika’s invitation.(
