International Festival of the Comic
Most of us try to find humor in our daily existences, especially when we are going through a tough patch in our lives. Politics seems so much less serious in the newspaper comic strip, and many find comfort in this funny form of art. Some find heroes between the pages of a comic book, others learn valuable life lessons; but no matter what you take away from comics, these delightful sketches have become a part of our lives, and sometimes, our escape. To celebrate the artists who have put smiles on our faces and to encourage young artists, Algeria will be hosting the second Festival International de la Bande Dessinee d’Alger, or International Festival of the Comic.
The International Festival of the Comic will be held from the 14th to the 18th of October 2009, and it is a festival that showcases the work of local and international artist. Exhibitions bring the world of comics and their creators to life and visitors to the festival will find colorful strip and other works of comic art on display. Visitors will also be able to get an autograph or two and what’s more, some of the biggest publishers in the industry will also be attending the 2009 Festival International de la Bande Dessinee d’Alger, giving visitors the opportunity to purchase a few comics to take home and read at their leisure.
Artists, writers and designers will also be able to win prizes in the form of trophies and cash, by entering in the festival competition. Cartoonist can enter their novels, comic books and related works into the various categories available in the competition, which will be judged by a panel that consists of international members. Visitors to the festival can also look forward to workshops, concerts, debates and much more. Festivals, such as the International Festival of the Comic, are catapulting Algeria into the international spotlight, creating opportunities and showcasing the noteworthy qualities of the country. Those who are serious about comics and fans of this form of art, should ensure they don’t miss out on this festival that is gearing up to a spectacular comic extravaganza.
