Discover the Antics of Algeria's Golden Jackal
If you happen to spend some time exploring the more rural parts of Algeria, you may happen to come across a small, fox-like dog scurrying around as it looks for food. This is the Golden Jackal (Canis aureus), a type of small, wild dog that is commonly found in southern Asia as well as northern and central Africa.
Djanet – Jewel of the Sahara Desert
It is not easy to describe the Djanet. One could say that it is a settlement or a cluster of villages, surrounding a breathtaking oasis in the middle of the Sahara desert. It is situated in the Tassili National Park in Algeria and has approximately 15 000 local residents. There are no urban buildings in the Djanet oasis and it seems to be a location that is lost in time and has been able to keep its air of nostalgia. It is easy to see why Djanet is called the “Jewel of the Desert”.
Abdelaziz Belkhadem – Prime Minister of Algeria
The current Prime Minister of Algeria took over power from Ahmed Ouyahia in 2006, after Ouyahia’s resignation. A Prime Minister of Algeria is appointed by the President; and as Prime Minister he is the head of the Algerian government.
Beautiful Birds in Algeria
Algeria has over 406 different bird species or 53 families of birds inhabiting the country. Of those species, there is one endemic bird species in Algeria, which means that there is only one species that inhabits Algeria and is found nowhere else in the world. There are eight specialty birds, which means that they are distinguished in some way in comparison to other birds. Algeria also has nine endangered species, which could become extinct in the near future.
